BACK TO COPENHAGEN FASHION WEEK

If you're reading this article it's not by chance, the Fashion Weeks have started well and with the famous Copenhagen Fashion Week that took place from the 2nd to the 5th of February 2021. The week was made up of 33 sublime brands from the Nordic regions whose designers displayed their Autumn-Winter collections to the public for the very first time.

Usually, the catwalks take place in real life, but as you know, this year was not the most normal one, so the designers had to adapt by creating virtual catwalks. Of course, this does not mean that they lacked creativity and originality.

In addition, this Fashion Week focused on the issue of ecology and sustainability. The brands selected for the catwalks were therefore already involved in this important cause.

SCANDALOOK, has concocted a small summary of the different brands that stood out during this Fashion Week.

By Malene Birger

By Malene Birger caused a sensation with her Autumn Winter 2021 collection at the first fashion week in Copenhagen. With her minimalist chic style, the new design designer Maja Dixdotter conquered the eyes and hearts of the public. The essence of the contemporary bohemian brand lies in the comfort of the garment. Through their creations, they want women to feel light, free, elegant and feminine.

With this new collection we can say that the contract is perfectly fulfilled.

During this fashion show, we noticed that the By Malene Birger collection consisted of full-length garments in rather light colours. Both the coats and the dresses are focused on the chic-casual effect.

Some will say that the collection from an outside point of view looks simple but when we look closer we can see that the By Malene Birger team has focused their efforts on the textures, the details of their clothes, which makes this collection rich and harmonious.

Stine Goya

Stine Goya is a creator, who could even be considered an artist due to his colourful creations, each one more inspiring than the last. He created his brand in 2006 in Copenhagen itself and has become a fashion icon. His inspiration comes mainly from art, you can guess from his creations that he was inspired more precisely by colloré art. Colour, according to him, is an inexhaustible source that can be mixed endlessly. Each colour has its own story and this is what makes each of his creations unique.

His art is characterized by colors of course, but also many prints and floral patterns that you will find on this new collection that he has named “Grunge Euphoria“. With this collection, he shows us his world and the state of mind he wants to transmit to us: power, freedom, rebellion and self-expression.

Ganni

Ganni consists of a husband and wife duo, with Ditte Reffstrup as creative director and Nicolaj Reffstrup as founder. Based in Copenhagen, Ganni is a brand with a new Scandinavian style, Scandi 2.0. Passionate about music since childhood, Ditte Reffstrup finds in it a kind of self-confidence, identity but also a link with a community. It is therefore thanks to and with music, rather from the 90’s, that she is inspired for her creations. This is why this year’s fashion show has been transformed into a virtual concert. All of which adds a touch of authenticity to her new autumn/winter 2021 collection.

Love Forever“, broadcast via Ganni’s social networks, consisted of real performances by Deb Never, Zsela and Coco O, all three wearing the new 2021 collection. The idea was to create clothes that would bring a moment of escape as a reminder of a better, more colourful future! “It’s a collection full of optimism” and “It’s that feeling of not being alone in the world”, according to Ditte Reffstrup.

The Ganni collection for this autumn/winter consists of quilted leather and asymmetrical blouses that give a structured and trendy look. Emphasis is also placed on the long drapes found particularly on the dresses and blazers in the collection. Tones range from dark brown to navy blue and cream with fluorescent green accents in the style of the 90s.

Holzweiler

Holzweiler is a brand of a family business founded in 2012 with its headquarters in Oslo.

The idea to create such an empire came from their passionate tastes for architecture, art and nature. Their creations are described as sophisticated. One of their favourite sayings

“The world is changing and we have to change too” is a perfect illustration of their states of mind and their creations.

This brand is known for their more sporty clothes but this time they decided to innovate with a fashion show held outdoors on a magnificent bridge bordering a lake. Their specific taste for architecture was the first inspiration for this Autumn – Winter 2021 collection with the famous sculpture museum located in the twisted bridge “The twist” 50 miles from Oslo. This work is both classy and original exactly as this collection illustrates.

This is mainly characterized by sheepskin, quilted material in the form of coats, bags, and even scarves, but also leather. All of these looks come with rubber boots. All these pieces show their interest in nature and put us in a comfortable mood of the Norwegian cold.

Stand Studio

Stand Studio is a young Swedish brand founded in 2014 by Nellie Kamras. Her creations are known for their natural femininity. She is appreciated for her pieces in high quality leather, always refined, and her colourful faux furs, all in a Scandinavian style. The Swedish brand is also evolving towards a more responsible and sustainable business. It offers as often as possible good quality materials and this with respect for the environment. Stand studio can now be found in many shops throughout Scandinavia, as far away as Europe, Asia and the United States at not excessive prices.

This year, the autumn/winter 2021 collection was made in the Stockholm workshops because of the pandemic. However, Nellie Kamras and her team saw this as an opportunity to create a collection using high-quality and exclusive materials! The fabrics used include double-sided leather and fake fur made from recycled material.

During the parade, plush coats, pearl blends, but also combinations of natural and faux leather were found. According to Nellie: “I liked the idea that you can’t really tell the difference”. The whole collection was harmonized around acid green, indigo purple and eternal animal prints.

In short, Stand Studio’s Fall/Winter 2021 collection was a mix of flash colours, contrasting textures, from wool to glossy patent leather and zany patterns, from black checks to tiger and cow prints.

Rains

Rains, in French, Pluie is the basis of the brand’s original concept of waterproof fashion. It all started with the launch of a single product: a poncho, in 2012. From season to season, Rains is climbing the ladder and making its place among the biggest. Today, it has shops in the biggest fashion capitals such as Paris, London, New York and Copenhagen. At first glance, rainwear is not considered to be the most aesthetically pleasing and thoughtful. But the Rains concept aims to bring a new, more contemporary/chic and original style, all in rain gear. The collection includes bags, trousers, coats and accessories, but with the particularity of being able to satisfy all 4 seasons. The tones revolve around black, light beige, dark grey, to finish with a touch of white. All in matt or shiny quilted material.
